New Services

New Online Safety Services
From September 2016, Scomis will be offering schools a new range of Online Safety services to help you keep your pupils and students safe, whilst fulfilling statutory guidelines (Keeping Children Safe in Education -  September 2016) and meeting Ofsted requirements (Inspecting Safeguarding in early years, education and skills settings – September 2015).  Services will range from newsletters to help keep you up to date with the latest information on this important area, to a proactive reporting and monitoring service to identify potential issues early.

Extract from Ofsted's 'Inspecting Safeguarding in early years, education and skills settings (August 2016)

"18. Inspectors should consider evidence that:
staff, leaders, governors and supervisory bodies (where appropriate) and volunteers receive appropriate training on safeguarding at induction, that is updated regularly. In addition, they receive information (for example, via emails, e-bulletins and newsletters) on safeguarding and child protection at least annually."

Scomis has launched a new Online Safety Service which includes termly Online Safety Newsletters and termly Webinars. Read more details about this service here.

The new Scomis website has been in use now for nearly 2 months.  We are really pleased with it and hope you are as well.

Don't forget our new web address which is www.scomis.org

Please let us know what you think of the new site and what developments, improvements, content or features you would like us to implement.  This new site will keep developing in response to your needs.  There will be an opportunity at the next round of User Groups to provide us with feedback.

Following our announcement in the last issue of Password about Scomis becoming an Accredited PS Financials Partner, we have now completed a pilot that has been running for the last 5 months to help us scope our service portfolio.  We would like to thank the schools and multi academy trusts that participated in the pilot for their valuable feedback.

More information about our new portfolio of services will be published shortly.  It will include a competitively priced hosting service which will provide an attractive alternative to hosting with PS Financials and training courses including User Day 1 and User Day 2 training as well as bespoke onsite options.

Please contact us for more information.

We are pleased to announce that support for the Capita Teacher App will now be included within your standard SLA.  This means that you can access the Service Desk as usual and we will provide you with help all for the same annual contract fee!

Is your school making effective use of SIMS?
SIMS is extremely feature rich but lots of our customers tell is that they only use a small proportion of those features.  This new service from Scomis enables us to investigate your SIMS database either onsite or remotely and to provide you with recommendations about how the various modules with SIMS could be used more efficiently and effectively. We also highlight any additional training or consultancy that may be required to achieve this.

For more information please contact us.

LAST FEW PLACES REMAINING!

Following the success of last year's conference, I am pleased to announce we will be offering the Examination Officers Conference on 16th November 2016 once again at Buckfast Abbey, TQ11 0EG.  I appreciate this is a distance for some of you to travel but this is a unique opportunity to have your say en masse and provide a networking opportunity for you and your fellow examination officers.

Speakers will include OCR, WJEC, Capita and Pearson.  This will be a platform for you to catch up on updates, raise any questions or make suggestions to the speakers on how the role of the examination officer can be more effective and efficient.  Stands will also be available for you to visit.

I am still waiting confirmation from one or two speakers but envisage the conference will be a full day again starting at approximately 9.30 am and concluding for 3.00 pm.

The cost of attending the conference will be as follows:

£35 per person for SLA Schools
£45 per person for Non SLA Schools

Refreshments will be provided on arrival, mid-morning and a two course lunch included.

Confirmation of agenda and timings will be available nearer the time.

If you would like to attend can I please ask you to email the Scomis Service Desk on scomis@devon.gov.uk and put the subject as Examination Officers Conference?  Alternatively, you can call the Scomis Service Desk on 01392 385300 stating the subject as Examination Officers Conference.  We will then send booking confirmations out as soon as we can.

If you would like to attend please contact us.

I work in a MAT and need access to a number of schools data on your hosted application service.  Would it be possible to make it easier for people like me to use?  For example can it remember the last school I used?

Yours,

Matt

Dear Matt,

Yes what a good idea.  We have developed our "SchoolChooser" to make it much more friendier for users who need to access a number of schools data in a Multi Academy Trust for example.

You can read all about the changes in this FAQ. https://faq.scomis.org/kb17771/

Hope that helps,

Grace.
