Louth Flood - 100th Anniversary...On the 29th May 1920, Louth witnessed one of its most devastating events in history. Freak rainfall caused flash flooding which tragically resulted in the death of 23 people and the devastation of 250 homes. This year marks 100 years since the Louth Flood and to mark the anniversary, the town will be organising a number of events over the weekend of the 29th-31st May. There will be historical walks taking place on the 29th and 30th at 4pm, hosted by local historian, Dr Richard Gurnham, as well as a remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony at The Flood Memorial in Louth Cemetery on Friday 29th May. Louth Museum, St James Church, Spout Yard and Louth Town Council will also be showcasing exhibitions of artefacts and memorabilia from the historic event, starting on the 1st April. The Council is also hoping to purchase a commemorative plaque and a tree to be placed in a public position within the town (possibly Westgate Fields).
