Maths Masterclass with Professor Mike Askew
Monday 24th September 2018 | Mercure Southgate Hotel, Exeter | 9:15 – 12:30
£79+VAT ONLY

Overview
Reasoning is at the heart of learning and doing mathematics. But evidence points out that reasoning does not get as much attention in mathematics lessons as it should. It that because fluency and problem solving need to come first, or because reasoning is only something that a select few children can engage in? In this masterclass, Mike will explore why it is important that all children get to engage in mathematical reasoning and why reasoning is complementary to, but not directly dependent upon, fluency and problem solving.

Key Reasons to Attend
  • Gain insight into how the reasoning aim of the national curriculum relates to the other aims of fluency and problem solving
  • Broaden understanding of what reasoning looks like in the curriculum
  • Examine how all pupils can engage in mathematical reasoning, not simply those mastering the content more quickly
