OUTDOOR EDUCATION AND OFF-SITE VISITS ADVICE - DEVON

At this time of year many schools that do not use Evolve very often are submitting visits for Local Authority endorsement.  As a consequence the LA is receiving a high number of visit forms that do not meet the requirements of the LA Off-Site Visits Policy 2018.

Prior to completing/submitting visit forms, PLEASE READ the document; Guidance on planning an off-site visit.

This document clearly set outs Devon Local Authority's requirements for;
  • Standard Operating Procedures & risk assessments
  • External Providers Questionnaires (SOE5)
These requirements have all been in place since September 2018. Visit forms that do not meet the LA's requirements will be returned to the school for correct completion.  To avoid unnecessary returns and additional work please follow the current guidance.

New or inexperienced Heads and EVCs or those that have not attended training since September 2016 should consider attending new EVC training to gain a full understanding of the LA's requirements/procedures. Future EVC training courses can be booked via:

Deaf Awareness Week - 6 - 12 May 2019 - Notice from the Deaf Council

We are writing to you to promote 'Deaf Awareness Week' which is a unique campaign to further raise awareness and challenges of Deafness and hearing loss faced by 1 in 6 people in the UK.

Attached you will find a pack of basic information about communicating with someone who is deaf that a teacher might like to utilise as material for a class topic on being aware of people who are deaf. This year we are also encouraging people to promote their deaf role models to show the positive side of deafness and give inspiration to all.
