Scomis is through to the finals of the Service and Support category of the Bett Awards 2020.
The Award celebrates UK-based companies and educational organisations that provide effective services, support and professional development to ensure that ICT really makes an impact in the classroom.

Outstanding Customer Service
  • We focused our application on our continuous high quality service, satisfied customers, collaboration with schools and examples of higher standards achieved. This included a case study of how we have worked with Abbottskerswell Primary School to help them become one of the top 1% schools in the country for their Key Stage 2 SATs results. For more information click here.
Unique and Innovative
  • We also demonstrated how the innovative use of existing and emerging technologies can enhance teaching, personalise learning and support business management processes. Two examples of innovative new services we have developed in response to customer need include ScoLearn Digital and our transformational Managed Reporting Service.

The Tech She Can Charter is a commitment by organisations to work together to increase the number of women working in technology roles in the UK. It aims to tackle the root cause of the problem at a societal level by inspiring and educating young girls and women to get into tech careers and sharing best practice across the organisations involved.

As an academy group, have you ever asked your schools:
  • What are your current pupil exclusions?
  • What is your current staff absence?
  • What is your current Key Stage 2 assessment data?
  • What is your school's current pupil attendance?
  • How many pupils, broken down into year group, are Pupil Premium?
Reporting and managing data can be challenging, especially within a school.
Asking for data from several schools can be time consuming and inconsistent in
format.
The new Scomis Managed Reporting Service is a web-based solution which gathers data overnight and combines it into a ready to use dashboard for your academy group. The dashboards make it easy to understand the data, combining key performance measures and useful pupil demographic filters for a consolidated view. Being automated, your academy group will have data at their fingertips without having to put demands on the schools. Find out more here.

Under the new Ofsted framework, inspectors will gather evidence and evaluate the extent to which a school's provision meets the needs of different cohorts including Pupil Premium and SEND pupils.

At our recent User Groups we ran a policy and strategy session focused on the efficient and effective use of data to support outcomes for these pupils. We looked at DfE instructions and Ofsted Do's and Don'ts, before looking at examples of successful intervention strategies. This was followed by a demonstration to show delegates how SIMS can be used effectively to help drive outcomes.

More useful guidance and information can also be found here.

Microsoft has published that after 14th January 2020, technical support and automatic updates which protect devices will no longer be available for the above operating systems. Running Windows 7 and Server 2008/2008 R2 after this date runs the risk of your school network being vulnerable.

Scomis strongly recommends that customers move to Windows 10 / upgrade legacy servers before January 2020 to continue to benefit from security updates available to fully supported operating systems.

Things to consider:

  1. Are you able to upgrade your devices to Windows 10 and your servers to a supported platform?
  2. Can your existing servers support devices running the Windows 10 operating system?
  3. Do you have the resource to upgrade your devices and servers to supported operating systems?
  4. Do you require new hardware?  (Windows 10 has different hardware requirements from Windows 7)
  5. Have you thought about moving some of your services to the cloud to reduce the requirement for on-premise servers?

For advice and guidance on the above, please refer to our FAQ and contact your Account Manager to arrange a free consultation.

Power BI Education uses academic data to create visually stunning analysis and reports for any school / academic institution.

Scomis is now able to offer a 1-day training course to anyone interested in developing their understanding of Power BI and how they can use Power BI to develop analysis and communicate business information in an academic setting.

Delegates are required to have an understanding of SIMS.net reporting so that they can produce reports from SIMS containing the data which they want to report on using Power BI.

A working knowledge of Excel would be advantageous but not essential as you are led through the structured exercises.

For more information visit our website https://www.scomis.org/training/course-timetable/
