It's 2020 and the start of a new term, new year and new decade filled with new opportunities, planning and great expectations.

Have you made new year's resolutions for your school?
Are you making plans to improve and develop?

One of the best opportunities for growth is to reflect and review your current position and goals. An audit is a great way to examine the goals you successfully tackled and address any unexpected events. You can learn from these experiences and develop a plan of action to achieve new goals and make improvements.

If too much information and not enough time is a barrier to reflection, then an independent audit will provide an objective and fair review in accordance with standards, framework and best practice and will provide assurance and areas of strength and opportunities for improvement.
Our unbiased professionals can provide truly effective audits and reviews across a range of areas:

  • SEND
  • Pupil Premium
  • English as an Additional Language
  • Single Central Record
  • Attendance
  • School Improvement
  • Strategies and Policies
  • Governance
  • Ofsted Readiness
  • Most Able Learners
  • Curriculum
  • Assessment and Data
  • Early Years Foundation Stage Practice
  • Data Protection

Festive goodwill to support vision impaired children in Uganda

The Vision Impairment team continue to support the Centre for Visually Impaired Children in Uganda – a parent-led school for the blind.
Linda Webb, Vision Impairment Teacher, and her husband visited the school last year and have since been supporting them. As a result of their support the school has been able to double their numbers on roll due to much better resourcing.
The Vision Impairment team will be donating money in lieu of Christmas cards to staff. This donation will be used to buy more long canes for pupils to ensure that every child can get around safely.

Collection for Worcester Foodbank

On the run up to Christmas Babcock Prime staff bought extra food on their Christmas shop and took food from their kitchen cupboards to donate to Worcester Foodbank to ensure people in the community don't go hungry.

Worcester Foodback provides nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis.

Claire Bradnock, Senior Specialist Teacher for the Vision Impairment Team has arranged for a food collection box to be positioned in the reception of Babcock Prime. "My mother volunteers at the (Worcester) Foodbank once a week and she has told me that they are in desperate need of food."

MET reverse advent calendar

All three Babcock Prime MET units have completed reverse advent calendars and taken their collections to local foodbanks and homeless shelters.

A reverse advent calendar is a collection of items (food or clothing) for charity. Unlike a standard advent calendar where you take something out every day with a reverse advent calendar you add an item every day in order to gift the collection to a worthy cause.

The MET units reverse advent calendars were well received by Batchley Support Group in Redditch and the other children and local communities who received them.

Cautious staff raise money for charitable causes

Over the past two months we have been able to donate £500 to charities close to the hearts of staff.
As part of an incentive to diminish phishing attacks, if a full month without any phishing attacks is achieved, Babcock Education will donate £250 to a charity chosen by staff members.
A phishing attack is a fraudulent scam via email or text message in an attempt to gain sensitive, confidential information or spread computer virus.
In October we donated to the Oscar Saxelby-Lee fund-raising drive and in November we were able to donate £250 to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in Surrey.

Christmas donation to cancer support foundation

£190 was raised through a book sale and staff wellbeing activities at the end of 2019. Staff were invited to nominate a charity to receive the donation, with the lucky charity being announced during the Babcock Prime Christmas Party.
The Mat Davis Foundation which supports young persons aged between 18 to 30 who have been diagnosed with cancer related illness, was the charity chosen by Rachael Baldwin, School Improvement Adviser.

Rachael commented "This is a cause very close to me and my boys as the young man, who this foundation has been created for, was only 23 when he passed from a brain tumour. His foundation supports local families, groups, cancer fighters and they do so with much love and grace."

Fun times were had by all at the 5th annual sensory Christmas party at the end of last term. The party was arranged for babies and children up to KS1 with a hearing or vision impairment that are supported by the Hearing or Vision Impairment teams at Babcock Prime.

The children played games, ate party food and danced until Father Christmas arrived to hand out presents.
Children commented that they loved the games and dancing and were excited to get an early visit from Santa.
The sensory teams organised the event to give the children they support an opportunity to meet with other children with sensory impairments.
The sensory teams had also organised a festive trip to Bodnum Arboretum for KS2 children they support.

The use of Alternative Provision is a popular intervention used by schools and the Local Authority for a variety of specific purposes; however, as more Alternative Provision is reported to be in use by schools, the Local Authority is about to undertake a review of practice and future needs in the area. The initial stage of this review will focus on understanding the different types of provisions available; how schools are using each provider and what each provider is able to offer.

The review will take place in 3 stages and by the end of the review we aim to have a strong Alternative Provision offer, underpinned by effective policies, in order to support the statutory provisions of both schools and the Local Authority.

Please tell us the Alternative Providers used by your school
Throughout the review we will be consulting with schools, Alternative Providers and partner services and agencies. We would therefore like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in in the first stage by completing the survey below about the different Alternative Providers used by your school. Please can you ensure this is completed by 31st January 2020.

Survey: https://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=157659717496

Please be assured that the feedback you provide in the survey is confidential and if the Local Authority requires additional information and/or would like the school to participate in case sampling later in the review, we will be in touch directly with the school completing the survey.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey and very much look forward to hearing your feedback. Of course, if you have any queries regarding this or any aspects of the review or Alternative Provision please do not hesitate to contact Katie Clegg on 01905 845914.
