Beyond Care: Connecting Higher Education and Corporate Parents

Research indicates that improved connectivity and communication between local authorities and higher education can improve care leavers' access to HE and their experiences of transition. 

On Wednesday, 11 December 2019, GHWY will bring together representatives from both sectors in an event that aims to support the access, success and progression of care leavers into and through HE.

It's Estranged Student Solidarity Week: join the efforts to raise awareness and increase support

GHWY is participating in Estranged Student Solidarity Week (ESSW) for a second year, which in 2019 runs 25-29 November.

We are using a delegated campaign model, providing various refreshed materials for partners to adapt and use on their own campuses and social media during ESSW and beyond.

Collaborative play boosts skills at Leeds City College

Leeds City College officially opened its state-of-the-art drama facility at its new Quarry Hill campus with a special performance in partnership with Leeds Playhouse.

The 200-capacity theatre hosted 'Influence', a new youth driven play that showcased the talent of local creatives. The production saw the College's facilities, students and staff collaborate with Leeds Playhouse Youth Theatre.

University of Bradford's first Erasmus+ International Staff Week boosts employability

Over 50 delegates from partner universities and organisations arrived on campus for the University of Bradford's first Erasmus+ International Staff Week on Monday, 21 October.

The five-day event focused on themes of partnerships, employability and student engagement, and acted as an opportunity to build on relations with our partners by welcoming them to the University and Bradford District.

Research presentation: Contextual Admissions

When:
 Friday, 31 January 2020 between 1-2pm
Where: University of Leeds, Worsley Building (room 9.58c)

Prof. Vikki Boliver (Durham University) will speak about her paper reporting on recent findings of an ESRC funded project on contextual approaches to undergraduate admissions.

This is an internal University of Leeds briefing session, however it has agreed to offer one space to all other GHWY partners.

Transforming lives in Bradford: Access & Participation

When: 
Tuesday, 17 December between 9.30am-1.30pm
Where: Bradford College

Aimed at teachers and advisors, the conference will increase understanding of Access & Participation initiatives within Higher Education institutions and an understanding of the benefits to your school/community setting.

The event will include updates from GHWY and NCOP.
