Join us and discover Leeds from your home.  From Monday 29 June to Friday 10 July, we'll be running a series of live virtual events for prospective students.  

During our live sessions, we will have staff and current undergraduates on hand to answer any questions you may have about academic study and life at Leeds.  You will find out what to expect from university, how to write your UCAS application, and take the opportunity to virtually explore our campus.

Our next newsletter will provide details on how you can create your virtual open days account. In the meantime, register your interest to be the first to hear when the platform opens.

We have launched a new suite of materials, designed to develop research/study skills and prepare students for degree-level study. Topics include: critical thinking; note taking; research ethics; and essay writing.  Each learning pack includes an information sheet outlining the key areas, essential further reading, and an activity sheet to apply the skills learned. The resources are now available to download from our online presentations and resource webpages. 

Our Leeds Loves Languages online presentation is designed to excite and encourage Key Stage 3 students to choose a language as one of their options.  Our virtual session is delivered by two of our Student Ambassadors and is accompanied by an activity pack.
 
The talk covers: the benefits of studying languages at GCSE; skills gained; and career opportunities.  We hope our Student Ambassadors will inspire learners with their language journeys and university experiences.  You can access the film and activity pack here. 

This AMSP transition course supports students who have studied A-level Mathematics and are progressing to an undergraduate degree course in mathematics, engineering, physics or a related subject.  Access requires a free login for every school/college that registers with the AMSP .  These login details can then be shared with any student within your school or college.  Visit our STEM Outreach website for further details.

To support student success in online learning, we have developed five new courses for 16-18 year olds, which can now be accessed on our FutureLearn channel.  Each free course requires 4 hours study and can be used in lessons or individually by students:

Studying and Reflecting: how to learn effectively online, explore new tools and apply reflective strategies.
Communicating and Collaborating: improve online communication skills to enable effective online collaborations.
Managing your Online Identity: how to manage digital identities safely.
Researching your Project: learn to conduct rigorous online research by exploring tools and strategies  
Preparing to Learn Online at University: key skills and techniques for learning online as part of your university studies.

In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June 2020, the University's Electrifying Women project has developed a series of online videos and activities for teachers and students to explore the history of women in engineering. 

Resources for students include films exploring the key skills needed to be an engineer and the history of women in engineering and for teachers a creative writing pack.  For further information, please visit the STEM Outreach website.
