£1.2m projects to be funded by Towns Fund 'accelerator' money announced

Earlier this month our Councillors agreed two projects we will be looking to fund using the Government's recently announced Towns Fund Accelerated Funding.

Having already been included in the Towns Fund, which provides the opportunity for each town to bid for up to £25million, it was announced in July that the Mablethorpe Town Deal area and the Skegness Town Deal area would also be given £500,000 and £750,000 respectively to fund projects that can be delivered by the end of March 2021. Town Investment Plans which will be serve as the bids for the £25m will be submitted later this year.

Councillors agreed to use the Accelerated Funding to progress the pedestrianisation of Skegness' Tower Esplanade and preparatory works for the Sutton on Sea Colonnade project. To find out more about each project, click the Read More button below.

Disabled Facilities Grant improves home environment

Our Housing Grants team have worked with partners and provided a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) to create a better living environment for a local family.

The team were able to provide a grant to the family who face daily challenges with one of their children having complex needs. The family's Occupational Therapist raised concerns about the impact this might have on the family and their home and our Grants team were able to work to support them.

You can find out more about the impact the grant has had and how you can access DFG's here >>

Housing standards being improved in the district

Since new regulations around energy efficiency in private rented accommodation came into effect in April this year, our Housing Standards Team have been working hard to ensure landlords carry out their duties.

The team are reviewing all private rented properties and identifying any that provide low levels of energy efficiency and serving a notice to the landlord to have improvement works carried out if needed; so far 70 notices have been issued with a further 330 to be served in the coming weeks.

You can find out more about the important work our team are doing and the regulations on our website >>

New accommodation for people with disabilities

We have been working with Platform Housing group to increase the number of properties built that are suitable for people with a disability and reducing the likelihood of having to use unsuitable accommodation.

We have contributed £15,000 towards a fully adapted bungalow in Louth which will be prioritised for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. We will also be contributing approximately £50,000 to help build another adapted bungalow in Louth and an adapted house in Wragby.

Don't be Rubbish!

Unfortunately the district and many other resorts across the country are seeing increasing issues of litter.

To try to combat this we've joined forces with the Lincolnshire Coastal Destination BID and Sutton Beachcare to produce signage reminding visitors to bin their litter or take it home.

The signage is being installed along the coast in Mablethorpe, Sutton on Sea and Skegness in the most affected areas.
