Ian Greenwood had a surprise send-off on his last day before retirement. As his Zoom meeting with the Head of the Division came to a close, all members of CERIC and the Division were secretly let in from the waiting room to share kind words and wish Ian all the best for his new life.

What advice would Ian give us all?

Time flies far too quickly.
My only advice to all is do not waste
a single second.

We are pleased to announce that Ian has been given honorary academic status and we look forward to still seeing him!

In December 2020 Matt Cole left Leeds to take up another postdoctoral research fellow position at the Oxford Internet Institute working on the Fairwork Project. Matt did his PhD at Leeds, which in his own words was life-changing.

I felt incredibly lucky to have such a supportive, collegial and politically astute environment to develop as young (ish) academic. I would be lying if I said I was not reluctant to leave.

Matt will continue to work on various projects with CERIC colleagues.

Within the last month, it was announced that MPs will be launching an inquiry into the economic impact music streaming services have on artists and those involved in the music industry.

Platform work is often controversial and contested, and as such there have been numerous studies of platform labour protest. However, these have tended to be single or small comparative case studies. Professor Mark Stuart and Denis Neumann talk about why there is a pressing need to explore platform worker protest on a global scale.

Vera Trappmann and Alexandra Seehaus give a summary of their insights into young precarious workers in Poland and Germany.
