Discretionary Grant Scheme

The Discretionary Grant scheme is one of a limited range of new government grants that are being introduced to support businesses through the current lockdown period until 2 December 2020.

We hope to launch the scheme towards the end of November.

We will add information to our website and update businesses via future bulletins, social media and the press as soon as we have further details.

In the meantime, if you wish to register your interest, please email Covid19discretionarygrantsupport@harborough.gov.uk.

We would also request that you do not contact Customer Services at Harborough District Council about this, as they are busy dealing with many other enquiries.

Business Bank Accounts
Does your business need one?
Who needs a bank account?

You NEED a business bank account if...
  • You've set your business up as a limited company in the UK (i.e., you've registered it at Companies House). In this case, your business is legally separate from you, so you shouldn't be using a personal account for its expenses.
You don't NEED a business bank account if...
  • You're a sole trader or freelancer, or contracting (but not through a limited company), eg, hairdresser, research interviewer, journalist, TV producer, gardener, designer, developer.
  • You're doing gig work, like Uber, TaskRabbit or Deliveroo.

Reasons to set up a business bank account:
  • When your business has too many transactions to run through a personal account
  • When you want to improve the image of your business
  • To protect your personal identity
  • When you want to build a business banking relationship
  • When you want to begin accepting credit card payments
  • When you want to simplify tax preparation
  • When you enter a partnership, or you want to incorporate
  • When you want to sell your business

The Kickstart Scheme is part of the Government's Plan for jobs, which was announced in July 2020.

If you are an employer looking to create job placements for young people, you can apply for funding through the Kickstart Scheme.

It aims to create hundreds and thousands of new, fully funded and paid work placements across England, Scotland and Wales.

The scheme offers funding for employers to create new 6 month job placements for young people who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

'The Harborough Innovation Centre is acting as a gateway to the scheme for local employers offering less than 30 placements. Applications are now open and this first round will close on Monday 23 November 2020.

To request an application form, please email us at business@harborough.gov.uk
