Council Leader responds to Tier 3 announcement

Councillor Craig Leyland, Leader of the Council, has issued the following statement after the announcement that Lincolnshire will enter Tier 3 when the national lockdown ends:

"It's disappointing to find out that Lincolnshire will enter the highest tier of restrictions when the national lockdown comes to an end on December 2. I am, of course, concerned for those who will be impacted by these new restrictions, especially those businesses who face an extended period of being unable to open. We will continue to work to support those affected as we have throughout the pandemic. We must recognise the gravity of the situation and we must all now play our part in following the restrictions.

"I encourage all our residents and businesses to make themselves familiar with the new rules that will be coming into effect. I'm pleased to say that our Covid Advisors, who will work to support residents and businesses in understanding the latest guidance on Covid-19 restrictions, have also recently started in post and we'll be sharing more news on their work in the coming weeks.

"Hopefully, if we all play our part, we will begin to see restrictions eased as the tiers are reviewed in the coming weeks."

Don't miss your Christmas and New Year bin collections!

It's important you check your bin collection days now as some collections will be made earlier and some later.

Our residents who live near to Boston and have their bins collected by Boston Borough Council will receive a letter advising of a change to the online calendar; these residents are asked to put their bins out on the days on the letter not the online calendar.

Carbon Reduction Plan agreed

In 2019 we made a commitment to reduce our
environmental impact and, earlier this month, our Executive Board agreed a Carbon Reduction plan that details the pathway we will take in order to meet our net zero emissions ambition by 2040.

The plan sets out a number of reduction opportunities, such as energy management and a full LED lighting roll out across all council offices.

Steeping dredging continues on schedule

More than 75% of the first phase of targeted dredging of the Steeping River and Wainfleet Relief Channel has now been completed – that's around 22,000 cubic metres of silt removed. Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board (LMDB) is managing this on the ground. Dredging stopped in Wainfleet in mid-November temporarily while the pipeline was swapped to the second lagoon before the boat continued its journey. This phase is due to finish just before Christmas. The dredging was possible thanks to contributions from partners – LMDB, ELDC, Lincolnshire County Council and Environment Agency – and is part of the Steeping Catchment Action Plan produced following the flooding last year.
