Welcome to the very first edition of Go Higher West Yorkshire's Care to Go Higher Newsletter. We aim to connect those working with care experienced young people across the region to Higher Education (HE) through regular monthly news, events and updates.

In this edition we introduce our new GHWY activity programmes, explore "Planning Your Future" resources, and spotlight University Centre Leeds.

GHWY launches new activity programme for primary aged children in care                

We have worked in partnership with four of our members to produce a new programme of online outreach activities for primary aged children in care.

The programme is split into two subjects - Creative Arts and The Science of Humans - for which student ambassadors present a mini workshop and activities.

New Collaborative Taster Days Available through GHWY

GHWY's thirteen higher education partners have come together alongside local employers to produce a series of Collaborative Taster Days.

Subjects to choose from include English, Business & Finance, Education, or Policing & Criminology.

All the courses are available for young people to access at any time and provide great insight into these subjects from multiple providers.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies has published a report looking at the economic returns of studying a degree by socio-economic group and ethnicity.

Research shows positive returns across all groups studied.

The 93% Club: Bullingdon in Reverse

A student has set up a national "93% Club" that aims to give students from working class families a chance to connect. It is estimated that 7% of children attend private school, yet they make up a higher percentage in HE.
