News and case studies
Study points to greater patient choice in broken ankle treatment
 
Research from NIHR Career Development Fellow Prof Rebecca Kearney shows little difference in the clinical effectiveness of two treatments for ankle fractures, the traditional cast and the removable brace. Prof Kearney and her team concluded that the choice of treatment method should come down to cost and patient preference.
Feeling Safe therapy offers new hope for patients with psychosis
 
The NIHR-funded clinical trial 'Feeling Safe' has life-changing therapeutic potential for patients with psychosis, by supporting their return to everyday activities. The research was led by NIHR Research Professor Daniel Freeman and shows Feeling Safe is the most effective psychological treatment for persecutory delusions, significantly benefitting 50% of participants.
Public health practitioner's research informs child obesity policy in local government
 
This case study outlines the career journey of Ravita Taheem, practitioner academic and member of Southampton City Council's public health team, who is undertaking a PhD with NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre. The NIHR Academy has added a tenth module to the Leadership Lab, a suite of online resources for self-directed leadership and management training. 'Building strength in my team' will help you to maximise your team's performance through mutual trust and working to individuals' strengths.

Introduction to randomised controlled trials
Discover the importance of trials in evidence-based medicine, from trial conception to publication, with NIHR-funded online learning. This three-week course is delivered by experts from the University of Birmingham and is free to access on FutureLearn until 29 August.
 
eLearning programme to support advanced therapy training
This series of eLearning sessions, from The Advanced Therapy Treatment Centre (ATTC) network, is designed to give a core understanding of advanced therapies, how they function in the body, and the steps involved in delivering these medicines.

The Commonwealth Fund Harkness Fellowships fund mid-career research professionals to spend a year in the United States conducting internationally comparative health policy research with mentorship from leading experts. 
 
NIHR Clinical Lectureships in Medicine 2021

This award provides opportunities for post-doctoral research and facilitates applications for further research funding for fully qualified GPs and doctors in specialty training.
