The Coronation will soon be here so do check our dedicated web pages if you're planning to hold celebrations locally.

Commonwealth Day is on 14 March and the Union Flag will flying at The Symington Building to celebrate this.

Grant Funding Boosts Community Spirit

Community Grant Funding Success in Harborough District

In this video we hear from two community groups, in Great Easton and Market Harborough, about how they have benefitted from grant funding support.

Funding known as Section 106 (S106) can be used to develop and / or improve community facilities and various open spaces.

This funding has been secured through a planning obligation request which is a deed or agreement attached to the land that is the subject of a planning permission. Contributions secured through planning obligations are used to mitigate or compensate for the negative impacts of a development.

Find out more about how to apply or tell us how S106 funding has helped your local projects by emailing details to: communications@harborough.gov.uk

Community Comes Together to Support Greener Travel

image.

Harborough District Council has teamed up with Leicester-based Green Fox Community Energy Co-operative (Green Fox) and residents of Tilton on the Hill to develop the county’s first rural electric car club.

Tilton on the Hill, which has no public transport, school or doctors’ surgery will benefit from two electric cars as pool cars from Green Fox which the community can book to hire out when needed.

The village will also benefit from two double EV charging points located at the village hall which the council has funded and which will allow up to four electric cars to be charged at a time.

This exciting and forward-thinking project is being developed now and is due to launch in March 2023 so we look forward to sharing more details about this joint community venture soon!

Support Fair Trade

Fairtrade Fortnight is taking place from 27 February to 12 March 2023.

Did you know coffee, bananas and chocolate could soon be much more difficult to find on our shelves?

Climate change is making crops like these harder to grow. Combined with unfair trade, communities growing these crops are being pushed to the brink.

A fair income for farmers and workers is vital, so they can keep farming and can afford to invest in adapting to the worsening climate and economic crises.

Making the small switch to buying Fairtrade supports producers in protecting the future of some of our most-loved food and the planet.

The Fairtrade Foundation has information about Fairtrade and is running virtual events with farmers, that you can sign up to.

Locally the Market Harborough Fairtrade Group is hosting a Fair Trade breakfast and coffee morning on 11 March'23 from 9am - 12 noon at Market Harborough Methodist Church.

DrinkSafe Anti-Spiking Campaign Launch

Leicestershire Police are launching a new DrinkSafe Anti-Spiking campaign.

Leicestershire Police take violence against women and girls extremely seriously and as such has a framework in place to increase action against dangerous perpetrators, build women’s trust and confidence and help make spaces safer for all women.

The campaign is set to be launched across the district in support of preventing violence against women and girls. Anti-spiking drink toppers funded by the Harborough District Community Safety Partnership and the Police and Crime Commissioner’s office will be distributed to licenses premises across the district, alongside with key safety information.

This project will educate people around the offence of spiking and prevent offending and will hopefully go some way to provide reassurance to women around Leicestershire with regards to the positive action being taken to make safer spaces for women.
